simply saving for later...
This list is from http://geekidiot.com/11/the-25-essential-playstation2-games/
With the Playstation3 out and its backwards compatibility with PS2 games the Playstation2 will slowly be phased out and many great games will either disappear or drop considerably in price. Now is a great time to purchase these games before you can only find them on eBay. Without further ado…
- Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas: The series that busted the open-play genre wide open..
- Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence: Simply ignoring the gameplay the story alone behind these games would make for a great movie. Hell, most of the games are a movie with the great cutscenes interlaced throughout.
- Twisted Metal: Black: One of the first great games for the PS2 console the game is great multiplayer car chaos. Music can be a bit creepy with Nine Inch Nails on the soundtrack.
- Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec and Gran Turismo 4: The king of car racing simulation. The first game that I ever played where my friends were confused for a second as to whether I was just watching TV or actually playing a game.
- Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Code: Veronica X: Admittedly Veronica X isn’t as strong as RE 4, but it still holds its own weight and if you don’t own RE 4 on the Gamecube then it is a must for PS2.
- God of War: Received Game of the Year honors in many publications for good reason.
- Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2 and Final Fantasy XII: It’s Final Fantasy.
- Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Jak II and Jak 3: A great platform series with massive playability and its just simply beautiful.
- Suikoden III: Underappreciated and unnoticed by many this is one of the best storylines in any RPG ever.
- Burnout 3: Takedown: The opposite of GT and just as fun. Knows how to keep you glued to your chair with unlocked items.
- Devil May Cry and Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening: Ignoring the sequel this series takes button-mashing action to new levels.
- Psychonauts: A traditional platformer that never got the credit it deserved.
- Okami: It’s hard for me to put this game into words so I’m going to quote GamePro (yes I know not the best source) to speak for me. “Okami shames them simply by being the genuine article: A stunningly gorgeous and unique masterpiece that effortlessly blends art and storytelling with puzzles and amusement. Miss this landmark effort at your peril.”
- Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King: The pinnacle of the series.
- Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones: Good on any platform.
- Rayman 2 Revolution: One of the best 3D platform games ever made.
- Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil The music throws you back to the good ol’ Mario days and the gameplay keeps you there.
- Darkcloud 2. PS2 was never weak in the RPG department and it can thank this game for it.
- Ratchet & Clank, Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando and Ratchet: Deadlocked: A series that stands the test of time.
- Bully: The game that got Rockstar back to legendary status in my opinion. Some of the gameplay takes some getting used to, but once you start tackling the tougher missions you won’t turn it off.
- Kingdom Hearts and Kingdoom Hearts II: Admittedly I was skeptical playing a RPG with Disney characters, but I honestly couldn’t imagine going my gaming life without it now. Stellar story.
- Shadow of the Colossus: One of my top 10 favorite games of all-time. Beautiful in every sense of the word and this is what all boss battles should be.
- Katamari Damacy and We Love Katamari: The game is stupid. Stupidly fun and addictive.
- ICO: Sits right next to Shadow of the Colossus and Okami for games that inspire me to be a game designer before I hit my head against the wall and realize I would rather just play these games instead.
- Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero II: The first game ever to make me enjoy not using the controller.
